Carla Cascales Alimbau (Barcelona, 1989)
Her practice encompasses media like drawing, painting, and sculpture, while she adopts a minimalist aesthetics. In her formal transformation of raw materials, she draws from architectural styles, like brutalism. Moreover, her fascination with the Japanese aesthetic of "Wabi-Sabi" is made apparent in her work, in which beauty is conceived as being fleeting and transient. Her work consists of a constant search for the essence of form and the balance between materials giving value to their irregularities and imperfections, in contrast with the austerity of their shapes. Cascales has held solo exhibitions in Madrid, London and New York, as well as artistic interventions in institutions such as the Matadero creation center in Madrid, or La Caixa ImagineBank in Barcelona. She has carried out art residencies in San Francisco in 2017, Florence in 2018, and Tokyo in 2019.
