Sergio Femar

Sergio Femar’s work is part of the European pictorial tradition that affirms its desire for knowledge of the world through abstraction. In line with the great painting that has passed from the previous century to the most current abstraction, Femar responds to the challenge of great artists, hence the intense vitality of an artistic process that awakens the connections hidden from the eye that looks, training it to see. Seeing, as a previous step to knowing. Form, colour and composition reveal to the spirit the complexity of existence.Without emotional or anecdotal references, the work represents itself, from the forcefulness of matter, to reach the evidence of the spirit. There are no “themes”, there are “universals”.Experience is eternal, practice is current. Femar works with a wide range of aesthetic strategies, materials and supports that are part of his everyday life, with the aim of delving into the creative process. His starting point is the moment in which he lives, a capitalism saturated with consumable novelties, from which he rescues the enduring elements; sometimes sought, sometimes found, to give them a new, perhaps definitive, form. It is not difficult to find in his production the elements that were discarded by the chain of consumption, which discards elements in its frenzy to accumulate new productions, equally disposable. Hence his recycled fabrics, reconstituted wood or discarded rubble are transfigured in his work into testimonies of a sustainability that is increasingly compromised by the system.Insisting on the act of painting is thus the unfinished performance of matter in search of its deepest meaning. More human.
