The spectacular, modern building of the Museu d’Art Contemporani of Barcelona, situated in the Raval district, is the creation of the North American architect Richard Meier. Following in the steps of his master Le Corbusier, Meier’s construction is a large Rationalist space that is flooded with natural light. MACBA proposes various, relevant pathways through contemporary creation, as it wants to construct a critical recollection on the second half of the 20th century, with the aim of confronting myth-making discourses and as a result propose alternatives. The word 'museum' as it has always been understood no longer fits, for now other meanings and other nuances are sought. Stemming from the premise that there are 'publics' and not just one 'public', MACBA wants to be a provider of services for all tastes and not simply a producer of exhibitions. MACBA is therefore a very active centre that is an invitation to new experiences.
