Promoted by Art Barcelona, this event is to take place from 1st to 4th October 2015 and some twenty galleries are expected to attend. The curated programme will include specific interventions, proposals from several project spaces and the participation of the main city institutions.
The Barcelona Gallery Weekend will showcase a large range of the city's artistic scene with its huge creative potential. The programme will encompass exhibitions and activities in various institutions and galleries along with other cultural initiatives in selected venues. The artistic offering intends to be at the crossroads of critical reflection and entertainment as complementary poles.
Twenty of the most representative local galleries will participate in this event with proposals from artists, both national and international, belonging to the contemporary scene as well as to the historical avant-garde. The list of participants is as follows:
Artur Ramon Art
Galeria Carles Taché
Estrany de la Mota
Galeria Joan Prats
Galeria Manuel Barbié
Galeria Marc Domènech
Galeria Marlborough Barcelona
The curatorial team Latitudes is to present the "Composiciones" programme as a parallel proposal to those of the galleries in order to introduce a differential element to our gallery weekend. "Composiciones" is made up of five ephemeral interventions in singular spaces conducted by artists either from Barcelona or currently living in the city. They intend to underline the relevance of artists envolved in the city's cultural ecology and show some aspects less well known to the Barcelona artistic scene.
Project spaces, a non-commercial activity, are venues willing to join the programme bringing another perspective to local art departing from their actual work and research and, therefore, presenting artists not so known to the city.
Furthermore, the Barcelona Gallery Weekend is to present a parallel programme in the main participating museums and institutions, at set times and with initiatives suited to the public attending the events.
Over 300 collectors are to participate in the Barcelona Gallery Weekend of which 80 have been invited from abroad. The aim is to turn Barcelona into an international reference point for artists and collectors.
