Joan Brossa (1919-1998) artist and poet born in the city of Barcelona, was co-founder of the artistic group Dau al Set with Antoni Tàpies, Modest Cuixart and Joan Ponç.

The elevation of conventional objects to the category of artistic objects, adding a poetic sensitivity to the genre, was the fundamental pillar of his plastic work, in which the called “Poemas Objetos” stand out. Its international recognition, through its great exhibitions in 1986 at the Miró Foundation and the retrospective at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, established the career of this creator, who died in 1998.

Brossa develops its artistic practice since the forties, in a cultural situation characterized by the absence of avant-garde and innovative proposals. Since its beginnings, Brossa carries out a work of aesthetic renovation based on literary and artistic research; and until the moment of his death, his very extensive production does not stop looking for new forms of expression and experimenting with different media.

Although the figure of this artist and poet is immeasurable, the work Neorealism allows us to approach and explain many facets of the Brossian universe. This piece, composed of eighteen framed mirrors, is a good example of the mixture of containment and irony, and is part of a rich imaginary composed of everyday objects in which the artist wants to rediscover the magic. Brossa’s is a school of the eye that fixes on banal, belittles heroes and breaks gender conventions. But Brossa, in addition, involves the spectator, surprises him, encourages him to think, or disturbs him with poetic appearances -in this case, of the viewer- as simple as complex.

With an enigmatic poetic wisdom, Brossa, deconstructor of language, conjurer of the signs, has left us a poetic universe in expansion, in constant mutation, like love, like the moment, like life, like mirrors.
