Antoni Tàpies i Joan Brossa

Tàpies – Brossa. Lletres, signes, xifres.

Objectives of the exhibition:

  • To show the complicity and collaboration that always existed between Tàpies and Brossa.
  • To get deep into a world of letters, numbers and signs.
  • To share their sense of humour, play and magic.

Tàpies (1923-2012), painter, sculptor, engraver… is one of the most outstanding artists in the informalism in the XXth Century.

Brossa (1919-1998), poet, artist, magician… Specially known for his literary and visual poems.

One of the most important facts about Tàpies and Brossa is that, among other artists, they resisted and expressed their art during the years of the Franco dictatorship.

Brossa created the artistic movement Dau al Set (1948-1956) together with the artists Tàpies, Ponç, Cuixart and Tharrats, as well as the critic and philosopher Arnau Puig.

The exhibition focus on the following things letters, numbers signs and parts and footprints of the human body.

The exhibition consists on:

  • Tàpies’s engravings and lithographs
  • Brossa’s lithographs and object poems
  • Artist’s books and portfolios, in which they both collaborated, such as: "Fregoli" (1969), "U no és ningú" (1979), "Sextina en el Museu de Joguets de Figueres" (1985) and "El Rei de la Màgia" (1986).
