Season launch with young art

Art Nou returns to its roots and launches the season with an explosion of young art that will boost the emerging art scene.

Art Barcelona presents the sixth edition of Art Nou, consolidated as a device for the activation of Barcelona’s art scene.

From September 5th to 23rd, Art Nou will put a spotlight on local emerging art and foster synergies between artists, spaces and the audience. With this in mind, we present a complete programme with exhibitions and parallel activities in collaboration with other cultural agents of the city.

The last two editions Art Nou took place at the beginning of the summer. This year Art Nou returns to its roots and will take over the exhibition halls at the beginning of the season. And this serves as a statement: we would like to celebrate the role of galleries, foundations, art factories and centres in the discovery of new artistic talents.

More than 20 artists at 16 exhibition halls in Barcelona and L’Hospitalet will be eligible for the Art Nou 2017 Award for the best artwork of this edition, endowed by La Capella with €2,000. The jury is formed by curators Irina Mutt and Sonia Fernández Pan, along with Gerardo Ortín, winner of Art Nou 2016. Other winners in previous editions have been Marla Jacarilla, Adrian Melis, Luz Broto and Rasmus Nilausen.

Art Nou 2017 will launch its programme on Tuesday, September 5th with a joint opening of the exhibitions at the participating spaces and the Art Nou 2017 Award party in La Capella, the meeting point for the art community and the audience.

As part of the exhibitions programme, Fundació Miró’s Espai 13, La Escocesa, Espronceda and Bombon projects will join Art Barcelona’s 12 selected galleries.

In parallel with the exhibitions, Art Nou will also host activities at various art centres:

We will again offer guided visits to the workshops of La Escocesa and Hangar aimed at art professionals.

At Espronceda we will reflect on different key issues in contemporary art (social responsibility, urbanism, etc.), in roundtables organized by Savina Tarsitano in collaboration with Arte Laguna and RUFA University.

This year a new collaboration with ON MEDIATION will make possible a workshop with a free admission at Arts Santa Mònica conducted by Christian Alonso, Pablo Santa Olalla and Olga Sureda.

The programme features 3 parallel exhibitions, out of competition, at La Capella, Victor Lope Arte Contemporáneo and Rocio Santa Cruz.

Art Nou is a project by Art Barcelona, with the support of ICUB and ICEC, and the contribution of Sala d'Art Jove.
