House of Chappaz.

House of Chappaz is born in July 2021 from the evolution and transformation that the Espai Tactel gallery has undergone both at work and personal level since its founding in 2011, maintaining its essence but expanding its field of action. This transformation has taken place naturally and its aim is that the gallery founded in Valencia by Ismaël Chappaz, and to which Oriol Armengou and Ferran Mitjans were added in 2018, continues to grow, expand and create new alliances to continue disseminating its lines of action and its ideas in pursuit of the most current contemporary art.

Thus, given this union, House Of Chappaz has two spaces; House Of Chappaz Flat (directed by Ismaël Chappaz) in Valencia and House Of Chappaz Basement (co-directed by Oriol Armengou and Ferran Mitjans) in Barcelona. A third virtual space (Thisplay) presents exhibitions in digital format.

The origin of “House” has multiple readings and is also open to other interpretations. It is the mother gallery in which the works are presented in a space that is also a home, it is the family of artists, gallery owners and collaborators, and it is ultimately the space where each person exhibits their art pieces together with their collection of souvenirs.

The houses are also linked to the voguing movement, spaces that were born in New York at the end of the 70s and during the 80s as places of safety for people who had been rejected by society for their LGTBIQ+ condition. Spaces of mutual support and union in chosen families, that is, families made up of friends as an attempt to repair the rejection suffered and to subvert all this through dance as a way to alleviate the pain and revolutionise the preconceptions imposed by the repressive society…

These and other ideas are the starting point for the conception of House Of Chappaz, connecting each of the meanings with Contemporary Art.

Weaving a network of collaboration, friendship and, why not say it, family, House Of Chappaz aims to become a gallery with multiple venues open to experimentation and current affairs, structuring the most daring Contemporary Art along the Mediterranean corridor (Valencia – Barcelona) and by extension the world, with a clear international projection already endorsed in the project that was born as Espai Tactel and which also has a presence in several fairs of worldwide prestige.

Following the lines marked out by the previous project, and which focus on themes such as the future, gender theories, queer, contemporary aesthetics, comics, manga, videogames and many others, House Of Chappaz is a project that is no longer so young and which evolves over time through risk and the commitment to very promising young talent.

House Of Chappaz Flat is part of the Consortium of Contemporary Art Galleries and LaVAC, Associació de galeries d’art contemporani de la Comunitat Valenciana).

House Of Chappaz Basement is part of ART BARCELONA, Associació de Galeries.

House Of Chappaz gallery does not accept unsolicited submissions from artists.
