This is a substantial painting, classic and discordant at the same time, related with the comic but taking some of its referents from the cultured tradition. It gathers, in an extravagant encounter, the erudite history of painting and the rogue bad painting.

In the artworks of this exhibition there are two great topics. One is the portrait of an intellectual. Meaning the wise, the authority from the experience, the father. Strict, discreet and obscene. The other theme is the painter and his model, also erotic and artistic, which leads to a demystification.

This work shows a close connection to the German Neue Sachlickeit, the movement that in the twenties and thirties of the last century explored the human condition in the modern and convulsive society between the wars.

Tomàs Morell works in a time where the painting is already post-postmodern, an allegorical painting. Everything that seems excessive and baroque acquires, in a symbolic exploration, a sense that questions us, because we also belong to this labyrinth of misteries and desires.
