More than 4,000 museums in more than 40 countries will open its doors the night of May 16 to celebrate the Night of Museums. It’s a very special event for citizens and tourists, who can enjoy the art centers of Barcelona.
The Night of Museums is an initiative of the Council of Europe, which comes as a complement for the International Museum Day celebrated on May 18. On this date, the international museum community wants to raise awareness about the role of museums in the cultural field at a local and international level. The theme this year, "Museums for a sustainable world" highlights the importance of these institutions to promote and raise awareness of the need to implement sustainable development that respects the environment.
Like each year, the venues of the Contemporaty Art Tour will join this celebration with a full program of events, designed for all ages. Centers such as the Fundació Joan Miró, the MACBA, or the Fundació Antoni Tàpies will have activities especially designed for the family audience, looking for building up long-term relationships with the little ones. All centers that are part of the Circuit will have guided tours of its exhibitions, and they have a very rich and varied offer: European photography from the second half of the 20th century in the Fundación FotoColectania; to abstract painting of José Guerrero at Fundació Suñol; and also a talk about the names that marked the Catalonian art scene in the 90s in La Capella.
To welcome other artistic forms of expression, Arts Santa Mònica will offer a concert of Trio Burrul Francesc. Poetry will speak at the CCCB, bringing the callenge to actively participate in Poetry Slam Barcelona. Blueproject Foundation, following its multidisciplinary line, will host a performance of Marla Jacarilla, followed by dancing and live music.
To make the most of the night, we propose four routes on different areas of the city. Also, you can find out everything that is going on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #bcnesmuseu.
