From September 29 to October 2nd, the second edition of the Barcelona Gallery Weekend, the annual artistic reference event, for art lovers, collectors, professionals and artists, celebrated in Barcelona. For four days Barcelona becomes the hub of national and international contemporary art sector.
Galleries, public and private institutions, museums and independent art spaces join the initiative organized by Art Barcelona, the Association of Contemporary Art Galleries of Barcelona, which in this second edition grows in number of participants and proposals, positioning itself as one of the reference citations in the European art calendar.
The second edition of the Barcelona Gallery Weekend will feature an extensive program in the most important galleries of the city, a program of artistic interventions produced especially for the BGW 2016 landmarks and little known of Barcelona, guided tours, project spaces and exhibitions in major institutions and museums.
23 galleries 1 foundation and 24 exhibitions
The BGW 2016 will feature the participation of 23 galleries, 21 in Barcelona and 2 in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, each one will host an exhibition of contemporary art created specially for the event. In addition, the art center Blueproject Foundation adds to the overall program of the BGW 2016.
The selection committee of the BGW 2016 hosts critics and curators Montse Badia, Àlex Mitrani and Joana Hurtado.
The unique program spaces "Compositions"
As in the last edition, the BGW 2016 has the "Compositions" program. Five artistic interventions produced especially for the BGW that can be visited for free only during the four-day event, located at unique and little-known places of the city of Barcelona. The program, curated by Latitudes (Max Andrews & Mariana Cánepa Luna), values the cultural history of the city.
Arús Public Library, founded in 1895 by philanthropist, activist, showman and freemason Rossend Arús, and donated to the people of Barcelona, the Barcelona City Police Stables, located in a former pavilion of the Universal Exhibition of 1888 and which now houses the 38 horses of the police, the Barcelona Billiards Club, founded in 1928 in the basement of the old Coliseum Gran Via, and the former textile factory Can Trinxet, created in 1905 and one of the best examples of architecture in L'Hospitalet industrial, these are some of the spaces that will host artistic interventions of this program.
